Weddings at New House Hotel Cardiff

Anya & Justin had selected one of our favourite venues, we always love photographing weddings at The New House Country Hotel .  We were lucky enough that the glorious weather continued (it was maybe a little too warm & bright dare we say it?!!) so we were able to use the best areas of the hotel for all of the photographs.

We arrived at Anya’s parents to a hive of activity, their hair had already been expertly completed by Jude & Sally from Aztec Hairdressers who had already left so their make up was being applied by Eleri Thomas and Bridesmaids were getting in to their gorgeous green Dessy gowns from High Society in Cowbridge. The flowers arrived from Andrea’s Florist in Penarth, they were gorgeous ivory Gerberas, small hand tied bouquets for the Bridesmaids and a larger one for Anya, they complimented their dresses perfectly.  Anya’s twin Sister, Francesca, helped her with her dress which was a stunning Stella York gown from Laura May Bridal in Cardiff before she walked down the stairs where her Mum & Dad were waiting proudly for her!

After some family and Bridesmaids photo we joined Justin and his family and Groomsmen at St Teilo’s Church in Whitchurch, Anya’s Family’s Church, in fact at their request the retired Canon Eddie O’Connell came back form Ireland to perform their ceremony which made it very personal to them.  The boys looked very smart in their navy Ted Baker 3 piece suits from Moss Bros in Cardiff with green cravattes that matched the Bridesmaids dresses.  There was a fab folk group playing in the church (of which we know 2 of the members!) which made everyone feel at ease prior to and during the ceremony.

After a beautiful ceremony everyone made their way to the picturesque New House Country Hotel where the views were just stunning due to the equally stunning Summer weather, therefore made for a perfect back drop for all of the family and friends photographs!  Everyone was very relaxed enjoying the views and the welcome drinks!  We took Anya & Justin to see the Wyndham Suite which had been beautifully decorated by Emma Hall Designs Anya’s face was a picture when she walked in to see it, just as she had imagined it to look like!  We made our way to the 3 tier cake that a Family friend had made, which they cut a bit later just before the First Dance.

Unusually the speeches were before the Wedding Breakfast and equally unusually Justin’s Dad spoke, after Anya’s Dad and before Justin then his 2 Best Men!!  As it had been such a gorgeous day, the light was perfect for more photographs on the lower lawn where we had a bit of fun with the Bridal party before capturing Anya & Justin in more romantic poses!!  We had already wandered over to the area to the side of the hotel where the giant Sequoia tree over 115 metres high stands and casts some much needed shade on what was a super sunny & hot day!!

The evening was kicked off with the cutting of the cake, then the DJ played their First Dance for them, which they danced together for a few minutes before their families and friends were asked to join them!!  The band The Soul Miners kept everyone on the dance floor, where we left them dancing the night away!!!  Can’t wait until next time we’re here to shoot weddings at the New House Hotel, lets hope the weather cooperates then too!

Katy & Mike travelled from their home in Oxford for their lovely wedding in St Isan’s Church, Llanishen and The New House Country Hotel, Thornhill.  Since the romantic proposal on Swyncombe Down in Oxfordshire Katy and her Mum, Sheila, had arranged the wedding contacting local suppliers to enhance the day.  Such as the beautiful flowers from The Flower Lodge in Rhiwbina which had the added touch of sprigs of Rosemary in them!  It was very calm at Katy’s parent’s house when we arrived, hair had been done and Katy was applying her own make up before getting in to her stunning Bridal gown from High Society in Cowbridge with the help of her Mum and 2 Bridesmaids. Two cars from Kennedy Classics transported the Bridal party to the church where we had gone ahead to photograph Mike with his family, his Best Man and Ushers (all of the Ushers were family members too!).  It was at this point that we met the gorgeous Flower Girls and Page Boy.  It was a misty, damp day but everyone was smiling and it didn’t stop the guests enjoying themselves.  After the lovely ceremony there was an array of umbrellas and lots of photographs. We even managed a confetti shot under the litch gate.  At the New House Country Hotel we photographed the families in the Wyndham suite where the reception was and took some fab shots of Katy and Mike in their Bridal Suite.  Luckily it then had time to dry up outside so we went to the amazing Sequoia tree in the grounds – one of the tallest of its kind in Wales!  We were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the delicious wedding breakfast with the guests before taking some more photographs of them during the speeches.  The evening was started by the band, Undercover, who played their first dance and got people on the dance floor immediately with their excellent set.  Katy & Mike are now enjoying their honeymoon in Sicily, lucky things!!

New House Country Hotel Wedding

The New House Country Hotel was the fab setting for Kellieann and Ian’s intimate wedding!  Kellieann went to the hairdresser and then got to the New House Country Hotel to have her make up done by Siobhan and to get dressed in to her gorgeous wedding dress with a pretty lace neckline and her white converse ‘bling’ daps!  Her daughter Melanie and one of her bridesmaids were there to help out.  The theme was bright and colourful with the flowers designed by Rob & CJ at The Village Flower Studio, Rumney, Cardiff.  When the other 3 Bridesmaids arrived they got into their individually coloured dresses one orange, one yellow, one purple and one pink!  Gerberas were the chosen flower that made up the bouquets, button holes & table decorations, with the added touch of a ‘Freedom Rose’! Ian and his Groomsmen, their Dads and Sons were all in Morning Suits with smart top hats.  Kellieann’s proud teenage Sons Connor & Cameron walked their Mum down the aisle to Ian, with 2 ring bearers leading the way!   After the ceremony we all went outside.  We took a photograph of the whole wedding party from above with the stunning views of Cardiff  in the background.  Once again, the weather was lovely and so we were able to take all of the photographs outside, utilising the beautiful grounds from the huge Sequoia tree to the landscaped gardens with the house as a backdrop!  The speeches were fab from the Bride’s Dad to the best Man who was Ian’s brother, who along with other family and friends of Ian had travelled from Liverpool for the occasion!  The evening got under way with their DJ Alan playing their First Dance and then playing some more top tunes that got everyone on to the dancefloor!

Here are a few of our favourite images from our latest wedding of Gemma & Matt at St Mary’s Church in Whitchurch and then at The New House Country Hotel, Thornhill, Cardiff.  Gemma got ready at her Parent’s house in Thornhill, helped by her bridesmaids, who also were responsible for her lovely hair & make up!.  The sun kindly popped it’s hat on which makes everyone feel relieved and adds to the happiness of the occasion.  The house was lovely & light and made it easy to photograph the morning’s proceedings and the conservatory provided the backdrop for the family & bridesmaids photographs.   The bridesmaids looked gorgeous in long mocha coloured dresses which were from High Society in Cowbridge, really complimented Gemma’s beautiful weddind gown.  Added to the ensemble were 4 flower girls and a page boy who are Gemma & Matt’s nieces & nephews and a bridesmaid’s daughter!  Matt, his best man and Ushers and his & Gemma’s Dad looked really smart dressed in grey suits with cream waistcoats and pink cravats to match the bridal bouquet flowers that Gemma’s Auntie had arranged  – though Matt stood out as the only one to wear a cream cravat!   The gift bouquets for the Mums and key family & friends were supplied by Covent Garden Florists.  The cake was made by a good friend as was the place names.  The ceremony took place in St Mary’s Church, Whitchurch, Cardiff, the service was taken by Canon Chancellor John Rowlands.  Matt’s family are parishioners at the church so it was a very personal ceremony.   After the ceremony we were able to take some photographs outside the church, particularly the traditional ‘confetti’ shot just outside under the litch gate.  Guests then made their way to The New House Country Hotel for drinks and canapes.  We shot all of the family portraits in front of the hotel, utilising the magnificent view over Cardiff which made a great backdrop.  We also had time to shoot a few Bridal Portraits of Gemma & Matt before the wedding breakfast and speeches commenced in the Wyndham Suite, which boasts it’s own terrace with the amazing view.  Table decorations provided by Emma Hall Designs, Colwinston.  We also took advantage of some lovely early evening light to capture a few more bridals and have a bit of fun with the Hen & Stag party friends.  The evening entertainment was provided by the resident DJ Alan Griffiths who got everyone up dancing the night away!!!

New House Country Hotel Wedding

This post contains a choice of our favorite images from the wedding of Laura & Richard.  Laura & Richard had their civil ceremony at the New House Country Hotel, Thornhill, Cardiff.  Laura had her bridal preperations in the Bridal Suite with her parent’s and sister helping out.  The wedding ceremony took place in the Georgian Suite followed by drinks on the terrace of the New House Country Hotel.  We were very lucky with the weather for January with some low winter sunshine just to take the edge of the temperature.  This also added a lovely warmth to the photographs.  We were able to take all the family portraits outside on the terrace.  We made use of the last rays of sunshine to take the bridal portraits in the lovely grounds of the New House Country Hotel.
